About Bookathon

Bookathon is a project created by the owner of EthosLost.com. At this time it is not intended to be a huge site, just a fun tool for friends, family, and anyone who stumbles upon this site to use as they wish. It is not heavily moderated, but action will eventually be taken if inappropriate text or images are added.

While there are plenty of book rating and tracking apps out there, this one is just for tracking progress. Simple, no ads, no cost — just a place to challenge yourself to read more at any age.

Future plans

To note: Due to the small size of this project, keeping an entire database of books on our servers is not reasonable at this time. For autofill features we utilize public APIs from Open Library. For AI-assisted book list generation we use Anthropic's Claude API (Claude Haiku). Please see the disclaimer below regarding AI usage.

AI Disclaimer

TL;DR — Bookathon only uses AI for behind-the-scenes code and to optionally generate challenge lists, not ideas or creative assets.

Bookathon uses Claude AI to generate suggestions for challenges, if you choose to use it. You will never be required to use this functionality.

The code behind Bookathon was built by fighting with using Claude Code, but all images, icons, copy and color palettes are created by the very real human being behind EthosLost.com. Fonts and Icons are implemented via code, but human selected from free use options. All functionality was thought of by humans (creator and beta testers), AI is not utilized for ideas.

While we do not control what images users choose to upload as covers for their own challenges or books, we encourage you to seek out an image of the actual book cover when possible, or at least use an image that is not AI generated. Real artists work very hard to make incredible book covers, which are accessible on the book's Amazon, Audible, Goodreads or other pages. In the future we may use the auto-fill feature to pull these images, but at this time would rather not risk pulling in inappropriate images.

This is a small project, built and maintained by one person and tested by a couple friends. Please keep that in mind if logging a complaint.
